A Review of Fit over 40

Fit over 40 or to give it it full name : Fit over 40 Role Models for Excellence at Any age ( I think we'll stick with Fit over 40!!) Is an excercise book with a difference, in fact I would actually hesitate to call it an Exercise book it is so much more.

Written by Jon Benson and Tom Venuto, Tom is also the writer of the #1 bestselling Burn The Fat , Feed The Muscle while Jon is a world renonwed lifestyle development coach and Fitness expert, the book covers Health , Fitness and Personal Development in a well rounded manner. The title is a bit misleading as people of any age can benefit from this , indeed my 12 year old daughter loves reading it and has been inspired by some of the people featured.

The book is logically broken down into 3 sections, section 1 deals with Jons previous health problems which include obesity having laid his past bare Jon then tells us how he set about rebuiling his body and his Fitness.

Section 2 deals with 50 roll models who are all over the age of 40 and are exceptionally fit and healthy with some still competing at body building competitions in their 70's. Almost without exception these guys look 20,30 or 40 years younger than their actual ages. If you need motivation then this is the section you will enjoy the most. Jon lists several examples on his web page that are well worth reading for example;

"A Florida politician in his 50s overcomes diabetes, completely transforms his body and health and becomes a bodybuilder!"

and

"A 46-year-old morbidly obese man from Chicago who lost 130 pounds in one year—and is now a Fitness addict who runs in skyscraper stair climbing races—placing in the top 8% of the field (including the USA's tallest building—the Sears Tower!)"

I can guarantee that if this section alone doesn't inspire you then nothing will.

Section 3 is the key to your sucess Jon looks at the physical and mental process of changing your body with indepth chapters on strength training, aerobic training, flexibility, nutrition, and recovery you will be armed with everything you need to change you body and you life and if thats not enough The book finishes with a chapter on the "Excellence Mindset" which covers positive thinking and a positive mindset.

If you have been looking for something more than an Exercise program then this is the book for you. I gave a copy to a friend of mine for his 50th Birthday, he thought I was having a joke at his expense to start with and didn't do anything with it, until about 2 months later when he found it again and started to read it. Last christmas he bought me an engraved plate which only had 8 words Thank you for giving me back my life" I feel a bit of a fraud keeping this I should send it to Jon.

Do I reccomend the book.. Whole Heartedly If you read it and follow it you can't go wrong!
